Sperm DNA fragmentation
Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) causes infertility in men and therefore a reduced chance of achieving and maintaining pregnancy. SDF affects both natural and assisted reproduction. Several clinical and environmental factors are known to affect sperm DNA integrity (e.g. heat exposure, smoking, environmental pollutants, chemotherapeutic agents, defective germ cell maturation, oxidative stress).
The analysis involves the analysis of at least 500 spermatozoa in a fresh sperm sample and the result is expressed as the percentage of spermatozoa with fragmented DNA (DNA Fragmentation Index – DFI). The results are expressed as DFI (%) and snow low or high fertility.
Sample type: Sperm
Time to obtain result: 5-7 working days
