Ms. Elena Kouini, BSc, MRes, is a biologist at ASTREA Health. She graduated with distinction from the Biomedical Genetics program at Newcastle University and later completed a Master’s degree (MRes) in Medical Genetics at the same institution. During her studies, she developed strong laboratory and research skills in molecular genetics, genomic analysis, and bioinformatics.

She has gained international research and clinical experience, including work in Canada at the CHU de Québec – Université Laval, where she conducted research on first trimester screening and prediction models for preeclampsia. During this period, she also gained exposure to reproductive medicine and genetic counseling practices.

Her professional experience includes work in prenatal diagnostics laboratories and IVF clinical environments, where she acquired hands-on experience with next generation sequencing (NGS), non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), and genomic data interpretation. She has also been involved in the analysis and interpretation of genomic variants related to hereditary diseases, including applications in reproductive genetics and cancer genetics.

She has participated in international scientific conferences and has presented research in the fields of prenatal screening and reproductive medicine.
