Mr. Dimitrios Lypitkas is responsible for the biology laboratory at ASTREA. He graduated in 2018 from the Biology Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His thesis which was conducted in the laboratory of developmental biology focused on the investigation of new signaling targets in hepatocellular carcinoma. The presentation of his thesis was awarded at the 40th Scientific Conference of the Hellenic Society of Biological Sciences. His strong interest in the research of the molecular and genetic basis of human diseases, led him to pursue and complete in 2021 the postgraduate program “Molecular Biology and Biomedicine” at the University of Crete (UOC). During his master’s, he was involved in several research projects in different laboratories at the Institute of Technology and Research (FORTH) studying the role of genetic defects in innate immunity in the central nervous system and the role of cytoplasmic proteins in cell polarity, cell fate, and cell communication. His master’s thesis “Study of the role of new natural and synthetic analogs of neurotrophins in adult neurogenesis and Alzheimer’s disease” was carried out in the pharmacology laboratory. He then joined “DNAbiolab” with Dr. Christoforos Giatzakis where he developed new diagnostic methods in molecular biology and genetics. After completing his military duties at a military hospital as an assistant microbiologist, he joined the staff at ASTREA.
